Kylo paced in his chambers. Something hadn’t been right on Crait. He couldn’t place what it was but something had been wrong. Rey slamming the door in his face hadn’t helped. He’d taken that out on a truly impressive number of training droids in addition to his own chambers. Multiple times.

He felt the world go still around him, signaling that the Bond had opened again. Odd since Snoke said it was his doing. He considered returning the favor but first he had to know.

“Why?”

Kylo opened his eyes slowly. He had been sleeping much better over the last week. Certainly Korriban had been extremely unsafe for sleeping but even with the First Order, sleep had often been elusive. He had not slept this well in years.

He rolled over to see Rey, dozing with a book in her lap. He sat up and moved the book to a side table, making sure he didn’t lose her place. Then he eased her down until she was laying on the bed properly and pulled the blanket over her. Then he got up and sat in his desk chair until she woke or the Bond broke.

Kylo laid a hand on the carefully folded, small robes and mask. He’d designed them carefully to allow the young boy to fit in with him and his knights around the Isle while still being able to move around and be able to see easily. He should probably prepare a set for Dizzy just in case she ever got the urge to follow them around as well. The other knights had gathered in a small circle, waiting for the preteen to arrive. Perhaps this was a bit silly, making this official while Adam was still a child. Kylo found that didn’t matter. Anything to make things just a little more real, a little more permanent on this island where all they had was everyone else’s refuse made things that much more bearable.

Kylo waited about a block away from the school. It was close enough he could see when the VKs got out and far enough away that he wouldn’t have to deal with any of their teachers. Their judgment wasn’t worth the slight chance that they might recognize him and tell his family where he was. Besides, even if his family came for him, the VKs and the other innocents would still be trapped here. And Snoke would make his life an even greater hell if he found out. No, he wouldn’t risk exposing himself to the teachers unless Adam needed him.

Kylo frowned over the ruins of the wall. He could feel the Force swirling around them but not their purpose. He closed his eyes and touched one of the larger fragments, reaching out with the Force as he did. It felt like the Force wanted to pull him into the broken artifact. He opened his eyes and gasped as he saw what looked like a tunnel into nowhere. It called him, sucking him in. Various scenes surrounded him, flashing by like buildings he watched through the windows of his mother’s speeder as a boy. Finally, they slowed so he could see a woman with hair like his mother and a familiar voice. He reached a hand toward her.

It had been several months since Mal's gang had been taken to Auradon, several months since the coronation and near destruction of the Barrier. He had hoped that they would simply be the first taken out of this hell but it seemed like that wasn't to be. He honestly couldn't blame the four for trying to forget where they'd come from. The Force knew he would be happy to forget he'd ever ended up here. But there were still far too many children here and they needed someone who would look out for them. The whole Isle knew their parents generally didn't.

He stepped into the fish and chips shop. It was common knowledge among the villains that he, like Snoke, still had at least some of his powers. The Barrier could keep them here but it couldn't block the Force. "Where's Uma?" he demanded of one of her crew.

Kylo landed the Fury-class ship carefully. He'd barely been able to get it working. It was several thousand years old and had been abandoned most of that time. If he hadn't learned to work on the Millenium Falcon, he would never have managed to get it flying. His progress had been further hampered by the Sith ghosts that haunted the long abandoned academy on Korriban.

There had only been enough fuel to make one short jump. Hux had left him on Korriban with nothing. At least there were no ysalamiri there and he could touch the Force. He had made a short jump to Rishi. He'd had to pretend he actually understood how Han had survived before he joined the Rebellion. The Force helped just enough that he could get enough fuel to keep going. He'd also heard rumors of the Falcon being seen near Tattooine. He'd grimaced when he heard that. Another desert planet. But at least there shouldn't be any Sith ghosts attacking his mind or body.

It was on his way to Tattooine that his uncle started to fulfil his promise to see him around. He nearly crushed the flight console the first time Luke popped in. A couple doors had already been lost to his utter rage and frustration. Luke appeared more and more often as he got near Tattooine. If he had to listen to one more piece of unsolicited advice about surviving either in a desert or on Tattooine, Kylo thought he might jump out the airlock.

The ship shuddered as it landed. He hoped he didn't have to fly it anywhere else. He wasn't sure it could leave the atmosphere.

Kylo rolls onto his side, one hand tracing Rey's shoulder. He doesn't think he'll ever get tired of watching her sleep. He pressed a kiss to the back of her neck, tracing around to her shoulder. "Good morning, Scavenger."
